Valley Forge Hoecakes
1 c. whole wheat flour or corn meal
1/2 t. salt
Melted snow or water
Mix flour and salt with enough water to make a dough. Pat into a thin cake.
Put hoe (or spade, shovel or even a flat rock) into a campfire until well heated. Cook the cake on the hot greased hoe or rock. Turn once. Serve plain, like they ate it at Valley Forge.

I am Diane Hopkins, mother of 7 children (ages 12 to 32) whom I have had the privilege of homeschooling over the past 18 years.
